Our story began in 1973 with our founder's vision to bring the beautiful, hand-worked fabrics of India and beyond, back to Portobello Market in London. As we turn 50, we grow ever-more passionate about protecting craft traditions across Asia. One of our proudest achievements over the years has been reviving the hand-block textile printing process in Rajasthan, at a time when cheaper digital printing threatened to make it obsolete.
That's why we’re especially excited to bring you our latest 50th anniversary collaboration: Monsoon x National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi. Renowned for protecting the legacy of India’s breathtaking living textile-handcraft traditions, NIFT was the perfect partner to create a collection combining heritage craft with contemporary vision.
To create designs that burst with creativity, we collaborated with NIFT’s students and specialist artisans in Kutch, India. Kutch is a very special place, made up of multiple craft-community clusters that each practice something different – from wood-block printing and batik to hand-embroidery, rabari, appliqué, mirror work and beyond. These beautiful techniques have been passed down through the generations for decades and there’s nothing like them.
Each piece in the collection features a host of intricate details across fresh, modern silhouettes and is a beautiful celebration of these incredible artisan techniques.
Look close enough and you'll notice something new with every wear...
Give your summer style a carefree bohemian spirit with this truly unique collection.
