Cornwall Travel Guide with Sally Fazeli

Located on the western tip of England, Cornwall is known for its long stretches of sandy beaches and spectacular oak-forested views, making it the perfect spot for a family staycation. Want to know how it fares? As part of our Tales of Summer series, we asked lifestyle blogger Sally Fazeli to tell us more about her recent stay on the beautiful Cornish coast.

Where To Stay

Bedruthan Hotel & Spa

Bedruthan Hotel & Spa is nestled in the clifftops overlooking Mawgan Porth, one of Cornwall’s most charming beaches. It’s modern and stylish with a stunning Scandinavian design but, unlike other hotels of similar description, it manages to retain an ultra-comfortable and relaxing feel that is perfect for families with small children. You can enjoy their sensory spa garden journey, take a dip in their solar heated pools or make use of their brilliant ‘listening in’ service which monitors your room while the kiddies are sleeping – allowing you to enjoy a couple of yummy cocktails at the bar! We enjoyed all these wonderful features and facilities, meaning I could make full use of my swim and summer attire as well as dressing up a little in the evening! The hotel is completely equipped for children too, with a beautiful adventure park, a trampoline, a football pitch, an indoor soft play area and lots of other activities for them to enjoy.

Both my husband and I regularly commented on how good the food was; all locally-sourced so you feel you’ve definitely tasted a bit of Cornish heaven! We looked forward to the specials board every night featuring the very best of the West.

Where To Visit

Explore The Eden Project

This place has definitely got the ‘wow’ factor! It’s difficult to describe exactly what it is; like a beautiful, huge, spiralling nature reserve with two colossal ‘biomes’ – they look like gigantic bubbles and each one features distinct climates found around the world – tropical and Mediterranean.

You can easily spend all day here as you walk around the entire site taking in the gorgeous flowers and landscapes, as well as spending hours in the biomes themselves. The various cafe areas serve up some really lovely food (we liked the Burrito Bar) and I spent forever in the visitor centre shop where there’s something for everyone. I wish we had visited earlier in the holiday as – little did I know – the entrance fee allows you to visit as many times as you want for the next 12 months.

A little warning – the tropical rainforest biome is extremely hot and humid so wear something light whilst you visit. Probably something without sleeves and a colour that doesn’t show sweat marks!

Meander around Padstow

Padstow is a charming, traditional fishing village with multi-coloured pastel houses which made my neon-cross body bag pop like pink champagne! If you take a trip there, you must head down to the harbour and enjoy strolling around the quaint little streets lined with independent boutiques, coffee shops and ice cream parlours. You’ll see people tucking into their fish and chips from the famous Rick Stein’s chippy; we couldn’t resist either! We followed it with ice-creams as we watched a classic steam engine roll into town for the Padstow Country Fair.

Surf Mawgan Porth or Watergate Bay Beaches

It’s no secret that Cornwall boasts some of the UK’s prettiest beaches with beautiful golden sands and sky-scraping clifftops. Mawgan Porth and Watergate Bay are just two examples of the picturesque beaches the region has to offer and are only a short five-minute drive apart.

If you visit Watergate Bay, you must visit Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen and/or The Beach Hut restaurant – both are highly recommended with stunning views out to sea. You’ll find delicious hot chocolate with all the trimmings at The Beach Hut – perfect for warming the cockles after a breezy walk along the beach.
