There are plenty of beaches to choose from depending on your preferences. Paradise and Super Paradise Beaches aren’t for everyone but are great to visit if only once to take in the atmosphere and tick off your list. Personally, the most beautiful beaches for me are the hideaway coves that are unmanned. My favourite was a little gem on the west of the island called Kapari, with fine golden sand and stunning sunset views. We plotted up with a picnic and a bottle of wine just in time for sunset one evening.
Some of the best bars in Mykonos are at the hotels. Enjoy a cocktail or two here and then move on to the cute bars in Little Venice. Caprice does especially good cocktails which you can enjoy right by the water front with views of the whitewashed windmills. Start here and then move on to one of the restaurants close by. I had the best carbonara I’ve ever eaten in one of these restaurants for under £10.
If you’re planning on more of a party scene, then head to Scorpios. Sundays are a particularly good day of the week there although as the island moves into peak season, every day is sure to be bustling. There are cabanas available and plenty of seating areas, as well as a fire pit to cosy around once the sun has gone down. This was one of our favourite spots, lounging on one of the large day beds with a chilled glass of rose in hand is a blissful memory.
Isidora Stripe Kaftan, £35
For a truly exceptional stay, go to Bill & Coo, located just on the cusp of Mykonos Town. The attention to detail they provide is second to none and despite being frequented by celebs it remains unpretentious with an incredible friendly welcoming atmosphere.
Another gem, which is slightly out of town, is Kivotos. Perched on the rocks of the stunning Ornos bay, a ten-minute drive from the town.. The hotel has 40 rooms, all individually-decorated, as well as its own private yacht for hotel guests to use for day trips to neighbouring islands.
We hired a quad bike for a couple of days and ending up extending the hire for the entire duration of our trip. For €25 euros per day you have complete freedom to zip around the island, exploring little beaches or restaurants that are a bit more off the grid. It’s also completely acceptable to wear a bikini on a quad in Mykonos so you can work on your suntan whilst you’re at it!
Clara Linen Stripe Jumpsuit, £59
Mykonos has a real sense of fun about it and everybody is undeniably chic – but that being said, it’s fairly low key. Don’t expect fancy dresses and high heels! The style is much more understated than that: think beautiful bikinis, kaftans and bare feet or flat shoes perfect for dancing the night away.
